I think there’s a video or post on this somewhere but I can’t find it currently. The basics are below:

- The Basics: camera should be stable, some use a tripod or even your shoe to hold it in place. don’t worry about zooming in, try and keep the videos short (as opposed to keeping camera rolling between multiple shots), can do straight on, side, or both. Coach Daniel will check them all out and supply feedback according to what he’s seeing/what he suggests you work on. You can post them here and/or Facebook group & tag Daniel Puerto.

- Straight On View: should have your full body visible from the start of approach. Ideally set up directly behind your feet as opposed to off to one side or the other on angle. I typically pop the phone on/around the board I’m standing on.

- Side View: if you’re a righty, try and get on an even numbered lane so the ball return is to the left of you and not obscuring your feet/body (odd lane number if LH). Place camera at the foul line 2-3 lanes down, try and fit in entire approach so you can see full body start to finish position in frame. If having someone hold camera, ask them not to follow you, just hold camera frame wide enough to get full approach in.

Nick Ruiz my numbers are definitely wonky bc of my drift right/miss right situation. But again, they’re all personal to you. Once you find what works for you, it’ll click. To answer the swing path comment, my numbers changed quite drastically when I was able to kill some of the ‘loop behind my head’ in my backswing. So when big physical changes happen to your game, get ready to potentially miss some spares and have to revisit your numbers. Typically, this is only when more drastic changes happen for me, but that’s just part of the roller coaster of evolving your game.

Nick Ruiz did you record yourself and document it that way? Those angles seem to be a hair off, I’m wondering if you need to account for your typical miss (seems like maybe your target miss is 1-2 left). My miss is always right, so if I’m targeting 21, I’m probably hitting 20. Mark Baker has a lot of great info on ‘knowing your numbers’. Has helped me immensely. A 2H buddy of mine is complete opposite and his miss and drift are usually a 2/1 left. We’re on 2 leagues together so it’s been a lot of experimenting and getting to know each others numbers. Once you get that dialed in, if one gets lost, the other can find it that much quicker. Has helped in multiple tournaments where he and I are on the same team/pair.

Nick Ruiz great question and is still something I’m experimenting with.

For me currently, I look at it the following ways:

- if it’s a non-house shot but feels playable like a modified/challenge pattern where there may be some OB, I’ll tend to shoot these with reactive. I’ll ‘hook’ at them slightly but not trying to really hammer on it.

- if it’s ultra flat, I’m not comfortable where the hook is vs the hold, then I’ll tend to shoot plastic. My conversion rate is NOT GREAT though so take for what it’s worth.

The 2,8 - 10/10

The 3,9 - 35/25

Nick Ruiz don’t sweat it. Get the plastic ball, start from a spot you feel comfortable with, track your numbers and find what works. If you need motivation, next time you go practice, leave all reactive at home and only take spare ball. We tend to crave that dopamine from striking, so it can be tough to grind spares practice. It pays off, I promise.

If it helps:

For right side spares (10,9,6,3-6-10) I stand on the same spot (35), and my visual target changes by 1-2 depending on the pin or combo.

Same for left side (7,4,8,2), I stand on 10 and adjust my visual target accordingly. For the 7, it’s 10/12. For the 4 pin, it’s 10/11.

For whatever reason, the 3 pin and 9 pin, I can’t seem to convert those as well cross lane, so I go by feel on those, stand on the right side and go up the boards. Hopefully that doesn’t burn me but when it does, I’m sure I’ll get comfortable adapting my 3-6-10 line to it. For 3-6-10 I’m 35/24.

Nick Ruiz yea plastic for everything for me except if it’s double wood like a 2-8 or 3-6-9-10. If you’re rocking only house, I don’t think there’s any issue with hooking at the left side. But, correct, it’s going to lower your sport avg by a bit until you can get comfortable with that.

Nick Ruiz no prob! Play around with the numbers and once you find it, you’ll know. For a long time I was trying to force the middle arrow as my target for all spares. I’d do OK but was always in awe of others who seemed more automatic. I bailed on the original system once I saw a video of Frankie Lavoie’s system, adopted his numbers and saw a percentage increase in single pin conversion. Only issue was my left side spares fell apart at different houses. So I tweaked those numbers for left side spares and became what I’d consider a pretty damn good spare shooter as of the last 4-6 months or so. Took a while to get there. Make sure you develop some sort of fun/challenging practice routine with it, otherwise it’s really tough to get excited to pick 10’s off of a rack. Good luck!

35/23 for me. (Big toe of slide foot / eyes at arrows)

I tend to drift 1-2 right and my miss is usually 1 right.

If you’re finding trouble with the angles from foul line to arrows, you could be a great candidate for that laser for angles/targeting.

Surface is your friend, I’d start off with any “slower/ controllable” type of shapes - good luck!
